Welcome to the Northport Yacht Club

The Northport Yacht Club was founded in 1939 in the village of Bayside in Northport Maine.

Our mission as stated in the original charter:

  • To encourage the sport of boating and sailing;
  • To promote the science of seamanship and navigation;
  • To provide members with an opportunity to participate in a variety of boating and/or social activities;
  • To provide and maintain a suitable clubhouse for recreation and use by our members.

The Northport Yacht Club is much more than a club for boaters and boat owners. The club has always taken the fulfillment of the social aspects of our charter directives seriously. Only a minority of our members participate in sailing races or go on club cruises. Most join simply to have fun, meet people and participate in social activities in and for the general Bayside Community. It is the social aspects of the club that keeps members coming back.

Subject: Notice of Proposed NYC Bylaw Revisions

Dear Members,

We are delighted that you are a part of the summer of 2026, one that is full of fun and sunshine, as well as new member benefits and gatherings at the NYC.

After considerable effort, the Board of Directors has completed a comprehensive review and update of the club’s bylaws and articles of incorporation.

We are now inviting all members to review the proposed changes. To assist in your review, the following documents have been sent to you via NYC email.

·      Current Bylaws: The existing document for your reference.

·      Revised Bylaws: The proposed updated document.

·      Comparison Report: A detailed summary highlighting the specific changes made.

·      Current Articles of Incorporation

·      Revised Articles of Incorporation

Why update the Bylaws and Articles of Incorporation at all?

These updates are focused on providing administrative clarification and ensuring our governing documents reflect our practices and comply with current legal requirements for nonprofit organizations. They don’t materially change the way the club has operated since its inception; they are intended to align our documentation with modern best practices.

We welcome your feedback. The Board has spent considerable time revising these bylaws with the assistance of legal counsel (thank you, Judy Metcalf!), and consequently, we do not expect to need to make many—if any—changes to this document following this review period.

Q&A Session

We will hold a meeting on the morning of Saturday July 11th from 8:30-9:30 AM at the NYC to review these updates with you and answer any questions that may arise. None of this will be finalized until the Annual Meeting (Saturday 8/8/26), and we want to ensure you are fully informed at that time. Even if you do not have specific questions, we encourage you to attend to hear the discussion.

Thank you for your continued support and commitment to the Northport Yacht Club.

Sincerely,

The Board of Directors Northport Yacht Club
